Ben Cramb and his petty-criminal friends get nabbed by Scotland Yard and are faced with a choice: go to jail or go to war. They choose war, and after a short stint in the trenches of World War I, only Ben is still alive. Shell-shocked and desperate to escape the hell of battle, Ben stows away on an ocean liner bound for New York.
